Should it happen that you think you have been a victim of real estate fraud, act quickly and follow these steps:

Consider reporting what happened to your local police department.

Contact the Land Registry Office where the affected property is registered and write down when you noticed the fraud and the actions you took. Include the names of the people you spoke to and dates of communications.

Contact your financial institutions and any other companies where you think accounts may be affected. In the case of the sale of your house or land, you need to find out who the title company was on the real estate transaction, and you need to do this as soon as possible.

The title company can stop all transfer activity by confirming that forged deeds were used in the sale of the house.

You should be able to find out who the title company is through the county.
