Inside AMCCO's Team Retreat to Lake Elementaita Manor — What It Means to Work Here

When AMCCO Closed the Office and Took the Whole Team to Refresh

Culture & Team | May 2026 | 4 min read

There are companies that talk about taking care of their people. Then there are companies that shut both offices on a Sunday, load the entire team into vehicles, and drive them to a lakeside manor in Gilgil — just because they earned it.

On Sunday, 17th May 2026, AMCCO Properties did the latter.

A Week of Anticipation

The buzz started well before Sunday. Anyone who has spent time around the AMCCO team knows they move fast, site visits every day, both branches open seven days a week including Sundays, walkins handled, clients served. There is no real "off day" in the traditional sense. So when word went around that the office would be closing for a full team retreat, the energy that week was something else entirely.

The team had been looking forward to it all week. And when Sunday morning arrived, both the Kikuyu and Ngong branches gathered at the Kikuyu office before setting off together — one team, one convoy — headed for Lake Elementaita Manor in Gilgil.

The Journey Was Part of It

The drive itself set the tone for the day. The team made a stop at the scenic viewpoint along the route, phones out, laughter loud, the kind of impromptu photo session that happens when people who work hard finally have nowhere to be.

The next stop was Naivasha, where the group sat down for lunch and some well-deserved nyama choma. By the time they arrived at Lake Elementaita Manor, the mood was exactly where it needed to be.

Lake Elementaita Manor: Everyone Found Their Thing

What made the day work was that there was no single agenda. The resort offered enough to keep everyone happy in their own way, and the team spread out and settled into whatever they needed most.

Some went straight to the swimming pool and didn't look back. Others found the yoga sessions and quietly exhaled after months of running at full pace. A few picked up paintbrushes and tried their hand at something entirely unrelated to land transactions. The football field, immaculately maintained, drew a competitive crowd. There was pool polo. There were drinks. There was food, in abundance. And for some, the afternoon was simply about sitting somewhere with a breathtaking view of Lake Elementaita and doing absolutely nothing for the first time in months.

It showed. The relief on people's faces, the easy conversations, the laughter that didn't need a reason — this was a team that had needed this, and they knew it.

The Unexpected Extra Night

The plan was to return on Monday. But as the team was winding down, news came through of ongoing fuel demonstrations that had cordoned off roads and made them impassable. What could have been a logistical headache turned into something else entirely — an unexpected bonus night at the Manor.

Another evening at the lake. Another dinner. Another morning waking up somewhere that wasn't the office.

The team made an early start on Tuesday, hitting the road at almost 4am to get ahead of the disruptions. Every single staff member arrived home safely. Tuesday was given as a rest day — no reports, no check-ins — and on Wednesday, the team came back to work.

Refreshed is an understatement.

What This Says About AMCCO as a Place to Work

AMCCO Properties runs a demanding operation. The offices are open every day of the week. The pace is real, the targets and plots are real, and the expectations are high. That is not going to change, it is part of what makes the company perform.

But so is this: when the first half of the year delivers results worth celebrating, the company celebrates. Not with a memo. Not with a voucher. With a full team retreat, a lakeside resort, nyama choma on the way, and an extra night thrown in by circumstance that nobody was complaining about.

That balance — high standards and genuine care — is what defines the culture here. It is why people who join AMCCO tend to stay. And it is why the team that came back on Wednesday was not just rested, but motivated.
