Kikuyu, October 10, 2025 – AMCCO Properties joined thousands of environmental enthusiasts at Ondiri Wetland for Mazingira Day celebrations, contributing to Kenya's largest single-day tree planting initiative that saw 12,500 trees planted across multiple sites.
The event, organized by Friends of Ondiri Wetland Kenya to mark the organization's 10th anniversary, brought together government officials, military leadership, and corporate partners committed to restoring Nairobi River tributaries and protecting Kenya's wetland ecosystems.
Two Major Planting Sites
The day began at 6:00 a.m. with birdwatching activities at Alliance High School, followed by the planting of 2,500 tree species. This exercise was coordinated by the National Defence College (NDC) Karen under Lt. Gen. J. S. Mwinyikai, alongside Alliance High School Principal Mr. David Kamau and Friends of Ondiri Wetland.
Later, 10,000 additional trees were planted along the reclaimed riparian land of Nyongara River, the main tributary of Nairobi River. Dr. Paul Kipronoh Ronoh, Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, officially flagged off the exercise in the presence of Major General John Maison Nkoimo, General Officer Commanding Central Command (CENTCOM); Ms. Rael Chebichii Lelei, Commissioner of Nairobi Rivers Commission; and other distinguished leaders including Kiambu County and Kikuyu municipal officials.
AMCCO's Contribution
As part of its October CSR initiative, AMCCO Properties donated drinking water and tree seedlings for the event. Six staff members participated in the tree planting activities, engaging with organizers and community members throughout the day.
"This aligns with our practice of integrating environmental responsibility into our operations," said a company representative. "During our project launches, we provide tree seedlings to clients who book plots, encouraging them to plant on their land or around project perimeters."
The participation reflects AMCCO's commitment to supporting communities where it operates, particularly in Kikuyu and Ngong areas.
Environmental Stewardship in Real Estate
AMCCO's involvement in Mazingira Day demonstrates how real estate companies can contribute to environmental conservation beyond their core business operations. The company's practice of distributing trees during property launches encourages new landowners to establish green cover from the start of their ownership journey.
The Ondiri Wetland restoration efforts are particularly significant for the Kikuyu area, where AMCCO maintains offices and active property projects. The wetland serves as a critical water source and biodiversity hub for the region.
